Short Courses at CAT (2007):

The 2007 CAT course programme contains an exciting variety of courses from our popular and highly respected range of renewable energy courses to a range of relaxing and enjoyable leisure courses. Our tutors all have years of experience in their fields. Their enthusiasm for their subject is infectious. There are frequent opportunities during courses to talk to our tutors on an informal basis.

MSc in Architecture:Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies: In conjunction with the University of East London we are also offering a masters degree, Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies.

MSc Renewable Energy and the Built Environment: This programme, which concentrates on a wide range of current Environmental and Renewable Energy issues, is run by the Centre for Alternative Technology, CAT (Europe's leading Eco centre) in the Graduate School of the Environment and validated for full MSc status by the University of East London, (UEL) with students being registered at UEL for the duration of their studies. The programme offers a unique combination of design, evaluation and practical experience that will equip students with skills that are becoming increasingly sought after in all areas of professional practice.

Professional Diploma in Architecture with Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies: The University of East London (UEL) and the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) are running a joint programme of study that will lead to the qualification: Professional Diploma in Architecture with Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies. The programme runs mainly as a residential programme at CAT but also includes a study tour usually in Europe and a residential Summer School usually held in London. The programme is configured to those students of architecture who have already gained Part 1 exemption and who wish to study for Part 2 through the subject of environment and energy within the context of architectural design.

Other Postgraduate Courses taking place at CAT:

MSc Managing the Environment: Run by the University of Wales Aberystwyth a new Masters course tailor made for those wanting to pursue a career in the field of Coastal, Estuarine & Wetlands, Habitat Restoration and Environmental Sustainability. The Environmental Sustainability pathway includes a practical module based at CAT.

MA Architecture of Rapid Change and Scarce Resources: Run by the Department of Architecture and Spatial Design at London Metropolitan University and intended for those wanting to work designing and building in situations of rapid change and scarce resources. The course includes a full size modelling/making exercise at CAT. Design work is based on research carried out during a two week field trip in a transitional context. Recent field trips have been to Kosovo, Gujarat and the JJ squatter camps of Delhi.

To reserve a place on one of our courses ring with your credit card details or send a non-returnable deposit (cheques made payable to 'CAT Charity Ltd.') for £100 along with your name and address to:

Shortly before the course, an invoice for the balance will be sent along with the joining details.

We operate a tiered price structure for most of the courses. You may assess yourself as to which rate to pay:

Accommodation/Food

Accommodation will be either on our main site or in flats nearby, in simply furnished rooms which contain 2 - 5 beds. We have a few single rooms available. There are common rooms for relaxation, with facilities for making drinks. Meals are served in our wholefood vegetarian restaurant. We have a no smoking policy in buildings.

Bursaries are available to people from less developed countries, who have low incomes and therefore cannot afford to pay for a training course here.
