Scope:
The Professional Diploma in Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies programme has been running since September 2008 and runs entirely at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) as a collaborative venture with the University of East London. CAT is regarded as Europe’s leading Eco Centre and provides many activities including education for all ages, a visitor centre and information service as well as providing higher education at postgraduate level through the Graduate School of the Environment.
The Prof Dip programme runs as a series of fixed teaching sessions, each session consists of 6 days per month at CAT (apart from August and December), a study tour in December and a 10 day summer school in August. Students are required to complete all of these sessions over a period of 18 months. The teaching events each month are residential and the time involved in each is equivalent to 15 credits.
Students on the programme complete 6 x 30 credit modules and 1 x 60 credit module over a period of 18 months, there is no part time route through the programme.
The number of students on the programme is gradually building with 2 intakes to date. There are currently 40 students on the programme. As the programme is 18 months in length there 6 month overlap between students, this increases interaction with fellow students. The programme is taught alongside the related MSc AEES and as such, there is increased interaction across disciplines. The MSc AEES (running at CAT since 2000) has enjoyed a very high reputation in the field over the past 9 years and the Professional Diploma intends to build on this.
