What better way to entertain and educate kids on holiday from school than to visit the Centre for Alternative Technology ? A range of additional events have been announced at CAT, running during spring half term à Monday 17th February to Sunday 3rd March inclusive.
The popular Gaiascope will run twice daily, introducing ideas of sustainability on a huge scale. A giant video kaleidoscope of images draws us into taking a wider view, seeing our world and ourselves as we've never seen them before.
Special activities and workshops for children will also run each day, 'whatever the weather', as well as special 'behind the scenes' guided tours of CAT taking place daily at 2pm.
Recent additions to CAT's renovated visitor circuit include a revamped composting display in the organic gardens, and the 'Power House', an interactive computerised model of a typical family home. Turning on and off the tiny appliances shows how much energy and money could be saved in your home.
Old favourites are still proving popular too - the 'Mole-Hole' is a hit with the kids, allowing them to experience first-hand the underground life of worms and bugs.
Backed by CAT's phenomenally popular 'Little Book of Slugs' - which has now sold over 12,000 copies - the 'Bug the Slug' garden at CAT demonstrates innovative ways of combating garden pests, all totally organic and chemical-free.
The opening hours are now extended until 5pm, with family tickets and discounts for groups of 15 or more still being available. Local residents (in postcode areas SY19 and SY20) are eligible for free entry provided proof of address is provided.
