Become an expert in Sustainable Architecture

CAT courses put sustainability principles at the heart of architecture, with a practical focus on energy efficient design, building performance, use of sustainable materials, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.

We offer:

Other MSc programmes focus on renewable energy, sustainable ecology, behaviour change or sustainable food systems.

Our MArch and MSc courses are taught through a series of residential study visits in our unique eco-centre in the foothills of Snowdonia. Our MSc courses can also be taken entirely by distance learning and we also offer part-time routes on all of our postgraduate courses. These courses offer you the flexibility to develop your career without leaving your current role and allow you to fit other commitments around your studies.

Learn theory and practice in an immersive environment with a group of highly driven sustainability pioneers and develop knowledge and skills in sustainable architecture through a course rooted in sustainability.

Become a changemaker

As adaptation to climate change becomes more pressing, society will need a workforce with new skills and attributes to retrofit existing housing stock and to design and build sustainably. Career opportunities will emerge worldwide that will need to be filled by those with the experience and qualifications to work towards a sustainable future.

During our postgraduate courses, CAT provides a flexible teaching approach that allows students to develop the knowledge and networks needed to work in this field and create positive solutions to climate change. Over 50 businesses and projects have been formed as a result of interactions and inspiration at CAT, with many of them developing from the community of students and alumni.

Examples of sustainable design and architecture practices that have been set up by CAT graduates include Pamphilon Architects, Grain Architecture, and other related companies include sustainable building materials specialists Adaptavate,  hemp building specialists UK Hempcrete and social enterprise Building Together. Graduates also go on to work within existing companies and businesses using their experience and qualifications to advise or consult on sustainable building practices.
