Free Webinar – The extraordinary story of human beings, energy and happiness

Home » Free Webinar – The extraordinary story of human beings, energy and happiness

Join us for the third in our new series of free online webinars. During this webinar you’ll get a taster of our Zero Carbon Britain course as Paul Allen, ZCB Knowledge and Outreach Coordinator, takes you through the extraordinary story of human beings, energy and happiness.

Our new series of free online webinars will feature different speakers, from our Graduate School lecturers to Short Course tutors, talking on a wide array of sustainability related topics, from energy and water provision to how we can create a zero carbon Britain.

The human story

In this webinar, Paul will tell the story of human beings, energy and happiness, from the birth of the sun to the present day, and explore the transition required by the climate emergency and the need for a new normal.

This story helps us better understand and un-pick today’s energy-extreme lifestyles; seeing them not as a natural evolution of human development, or even well-intentioned progress gone slightly wrong, but rather as the deliberate re-manufacturing of both our physical and psychological landscapes to increase consumption.

It helps open new conversations around a positive, zero carbon future in which isolated, stressful, over-consuming lifestyles can be replaced by a sense of connection with community and nature, delivering enormous co-benefits in physical health and wellbeing.
