Join Earth Building UK and Ireland (EBUKI) at Clayfest 2019 for a festival of earthen architecture and building.

This year the theme is Confidence in Clay, and this three day festival gives you a chance to explore and try out a wide variety of earth building techniques, network and learn from industry experts and to socialise with like-minded earth building enthusiasts.

  • Duration: 3 days (Clay Day, Conference and then a tour on the final day)

  • If you’re attending the workshops on Clay Day safety boots are required and old clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty is recommended.

What’s On

Conference – Friday 21 June

EBUKI’s 11th annual conference. The theme this year is Building Confidence in Clay and there’s a fantastic list of homegrown and international speakers lined up this year, whose topics including Living trowel in hand, Rethinking sustainability as heritage, Designing and constructing for a circular economy and many more.

Vegetarian Dinner and Shindig – Fri. 21st June from 7pm

After a day of inspiring talks and occasional discussions about clay, it’s time to enjoy dinner, let your hair down, get your dancing shoes and while the night away with your new friends.

With live music from gypsy swing/Welsh folk band Tacla, whose eclectic mix of jazz standards, pop songs and folk songs are sure to get your feet tapping.

Clay Day – Saturday 22 June

Come along to this fantastic day dedicated to building with clay. Get involved in experimenting with cob and fibre, be part of building an innovative rammed earth vault, and gain some clay plasters skills and experience with our visiting experts.

Clay Day is a chance to network with a wide range of earth builders, designers, producers and clients. Perfect for builders, self builders, designers, or just those that want to learn more.

Tour – Sunday 23 June

Wales has some of the best preserved earthen buildings as well as many new builds. This self-drive tour will allow you to meet the owners and conservationists who have cared for and valued these characterful homes.

Information on featured buildings, routes and timetable has yet to be finalised. Details to follow.
