Statement from Centre for Alternative Technology on the recent announcement that CAT Plc is undergoing a creditor voluntary liquidation process.

The Centre for Alternative Technology is divided into two separate legal companies; CAT Charity Ltd and CAT Plc.
a.       CAT Charity Ltd, the original organisation that was set up in 1974, is an educational and sustainable development charity, committed to informing, inspiring and enabling practical solutions for sustainable living and is governed by an independent Board of Trustees.

b.      CAT Plc is a trading company that was set up in 1990 as an organisation to support the charity through its activities.  The governing Board of Directors and its membership are different and separate to that of CAT Charity Ltd.

Earlier this year the Directors of CAT Plc announced, having taken financial and legal advice on the future viability of the company, and being unable to obtain an alternative solution, the analysis had led to the inevitable conclusion that CAT Plc had to be wound up as soon as possible. During the last week the process moved to the next stage with the statutory required meetings being held where it was agreed that CAT Plc proceed with creditor voluntary liquidation.  Any queries regarding CAT Plc must now be directed to Burton Sweet Corporate Recovery.

This has caused some confusion as people believed this meant that the entirety of the Centre for Alternative Technology is closing down. This is not the case. The Centre for Alternative Technology remains in existence through its original company of CAT Charity Ltd which will continue, as it was previously, to be an educational and sustainable development charity with its Graduate School of the Environment, the visitor centre, schools visits service, eco-cabins, information centre, membership and related support services. In addition, more recent after due consideration, the Board of Trustees of CAT Charity Ltd decided that the Charity would absorb all on-site activities previously operated by CAT Plc. This included: the cliff railway, the shop, restaurant, mail-order and short courses.

We would like to thank all of our members, shareholders and followers for their continued support.
