This April a series of talks at CAT will take you on a journey from ancient Welsh woodland to the Amazon rainforest and beyond.

On Wednesday 5th April we start our programme of evening talks with Adam Thorogood from the Woodland Trust. It takes many centuries to develop the rich, complex and irreplaceable ecosystems found within our ancient woodland but now this precious habitat covers just 2% of the UK.

Adam will talk audiences through the essential work being carried out by the Woodland Trust in partnership with landowners across the UK and Wales. With many stunning examples of successful ancient woodland restoration on our doorsteps in Mid Wales this fascinating talk will draw you into the mysterious and historic world of our ancient landscape.

On Monday 10th April, we are excited to welcome Tony Russell who will deliver a talk on his exploration of the Amazon rainforest. Tony’s talk, based on his travels in the region, provides an astonishing portrait of one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth. In his own words: “the talk is a celebration, but one which also highlights the current threats to this remarkable landscape.”

Ever wondered how we fit into earth’s complex ecological systems? Or how our actions affect other living things and the environment we live in? On Wednesday 12th April Professor David Wilkinson has been invited to CAT to explore the complex theory of Gaia. David is the author of 150 scientific papers and books on the subject and is an entertaining and popular speaker with CAT students.

All three of these talks are free to attend and there is no need to book. The CAT Café will be serving delicious vegetarian meals and drinks beforehand so this series is not to be missed.
